The best restaurant I went to in March – the great Game Bird at the Stafford Hotel.

Scallops — Beautifully presented, the scallops tasted as good as they looked!

Whole Dover Sole — This is the sole it its natural state – ready for filleting!

Filetted Dover Sole — Normally, I’m one for fish on the bone, but there’s no way I could have done it this well!

Salt Marsh Lamb — This looked and tasted so good – saly marsh lamb is such a unique flavour

The Game Bird — I felt a bit guilty at not having the titular dish, but I got to try it, and it was awesome!

Cote de Boeuf - for 2! — The Cote de Boeuf was beautfull cooked and came to the table ready sliced

I got the bone! — The others polished off the Cote de Boeuf, I snagged the bone for the best bit of meat!

Fillet Steak — The fillet steak weas cooked medium rare, and was incredibly tender

Tarte Tatin - for 2 — One of the best desserts I’ve had for a long time – the base was so crisp and the apples still had structure, but we wonderfully tender

Pistachio Souffle — Pistachio Souffle looked good, and tasted better. At least so I was told…

Chocolate & Orange — I didn’t get to try this either…

On Friday March 10th I went up 38 floors to the Bokan dining room at the top of the Novotel in Canary Wharf

Pictures below!

The menu — The menu was varied and very good

Bread Rolls — The bread was ok – nothing to write home about

Grey Oyster & Chanterelle Muchrooms with Hens Egg & Toast

Pea & Mint Fritters — Pea & Mint Fritters were very good, and so pretty!

The best looking starter for sure - squid! — The best looking starter for sure – squid!

Burrata was creamy and delicious, but so so cold!

The Meaty Platter — I forgot to mention the mean plate on the podcast, but look at how huge it was!

The Pork Belly was lovely and crispy

The Fillet Steak came out well and looked really juicy & tender

Lamb Cutlets — The Lamb Cutlets won main course – cooked perfectly and the smoked aubergine was incredible

Venison Pie — The pie was good, but venison isn’t my favourite flavour. Great mash though!

Lobster — My 3rd ever lobster, and it really delivered! Beautifully cooked and the sauce was great. Fantastic fries, too.

Hot Chocolate Souffle — The dessert I wish I’d had! So soft & tasty…

Fruit & Meringue — Very light and fresh – a nice finish to a pretty big dinner!

Ice Cream — Chocolate, Vanilla and Caramel

On Tuesday 7th March, I went to the Soft Launch of the new Hawksmoor in Borough.

The menu — The menu – but the real stuff is on the board!

I didn’t take pictures of the rest of the starters, but the potted beef called to me!

The Potted Beef Gravy — The gravy at Hawksmoor is a revelation, really deep flavour

One of the T Bones we had — This one was polished off by a friend of mine!

My T Bone — This was shared, along with a fillet steak with a friend of mine

Our Fillet Steak — So soft & juicy – the fillet steak just melted. Between the two of us, we managed to eat both this and a T Bone!

The chips were a bit underdone, but the fries were superb

I forgot some of the sides — In the podcast I forgot to mention that we had mashed potato and mac and cheese too!

Sticky Toffee Pudding — I love sticky toffee pudding and this is the best I’ve ever had

Sticky Toffee Sundae — I got to try the sticky toffee sundae, and it was very very good.

Doughnuts! — Just when we couldn’t get any fuller, we had to have doughnuts…

Welcome to my Podcast. I want to give you real reviews of restaurants, from all the places I visit while out and about in London.

First up is Mere. I was lucky enough to go to the opening night, and my thoughts are below.

Here are some photos I took while I was there:

The Menu — The Menu Outside

The cutlery — The place settings were plain but very nice

Bready goodness — I didn’t talk about the bread in the podcast, but it was delicious

The First Course - Celeriac — The First Course – Celeriac

Fish Course - Steamed Cod — The best dish came second!

Pork 'Boil up' — A very interesting dish, the likes of which I’d not had before. Morre hammy than porky for sure. The broth was delicious!

Beef Course - Sirloin & Beef Cheeks — The beef cheek was probably the best single thing I had in this meal. The sirloin was so tender and both went well with the garnish

Cheese Course - Pounder Cheddar — The Pounder Cheddar was wonderfully sharp, and went well with the pepper jam

Seeded Crackers — The Seeded Crackers for the cheese course

Poached Pear Dessert — A great substitution for the blood orange mousse dessert

Looked delicious, but not for me!
