Given we are in our inter-lockdown period, I’ve finally got out & about to try out some new places. I haven’t really had tapas since the incomporable El Parador closed a few years ago. Having finally got over my grief, I went and tried Bar Gansa which is on Inverness Street just up from Camden Town Station.
The place is nice & airy and the welcome was warm. We were the only people eating, a sign that people are still not going out much, as normally on a Tuesday night that paert of town is usually heaving.
The menu is small, but has a nice choice. I like that cod features prominently on the menu, with bacalao a welcome sight. I didn’t have it this time, but I think I’ll be back to have it. My dining partner was meat-free, so since we were sharing I forwent the tempting morcilla and stuck to fish & veg. Our dinner was none the worse for it. Photos are below, but the star of the show for me was the Piquillo stuffed with brandada, a lovely dish of peppers filled with an unctuous cod, potato & cream mixture. The octopus was also delicious, and came in a close second.
5 tapas (though the octopus was for 2) was more than enough for us, and we wound up taking some of the Aubergine home for later.
After dinner we went around the corner to Amorino, an ice cream place I’d walked past many times. It was really lovely, and their ice cream artistry was fantastic. The ice cream itself was excellent quality, though quite pricy.
Worth it though!
